Nàng Hoa Family Rice with Chicken and Seasonal Vegetables

An everyday rice meal does not need a complicated sauce. Small pieces of chicken cook quickly, while carrots and cabbage make a simple shared dish beside the rice. Serve everything beside warm Nàng Hoa rice for an easy meal that can change with the vegetables in season.

Choosing Rice for This Dish

Use Nàng Hoa as the family rice accompaniment. Adjust the cooking water from the sample instructions rather than assuming a fixed texture from its name.

Ingredients

  • 180 g Nàng Hoa and water per pack
  • 250 g boneless chicken
  • 1 carrot and 150 g cabbage
  • ½ onion and 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water, pepper and sesame to taste

Method

  1. Wash and cook Nàng Hoa according to the pack. Slice chicken thinly and cut vegetables into similar-sized pieces.

  2. Heat oil, soften garlic and onion, then add chicken. Stir-fry until cooked through and check for 74°C in the thickest piece.

  3. Add carrot, cabbage and two tablespoons of water. Cook until vegetables are tender, then add soy sauce and pepper.

  4. Serve the chicken and vegetables beside warm rice. Add a little sesame if desired and keep extra sauce separate.

Chef’s Notes

Change only one vegetable at a time when developing the recipe. Zucchini needs less cooking than carrot, so add it later to avoid a watery stir-fry.
